About this piece

 

In the manner of a true biologist, I just liked to draw the things I found when I was a kid. 

 

My mom had a biology textbook in the basement, Invitation to Biology, that I would always look through. At 5 years old, I was a pretty decent reader, and mom explained a lot of the photos and diagrams. You'd think boring textbooks would breed boring kids (and, okay, I was boring by pretty much every other kid's standard) but it's things like this book that encouraged me to get outside and explore.
